Ashley Simard was the sole Chesterfield student athlete brave enough to venture to the ICG and participate in this program that Chesterfield teachers had only read about. Ashley ventured to Celveland, Ohio to represent Chesterfield County with her mom as coach and city representative. Ashley Simard participatein in running events and shot put, making the finals in the shot put finishing 11th place out of athletes from almost 100 cities around the world.
Ashley participated in an international Peace Project sponsored by the Games finishing in 1st place for her multi-media presentativon using international collaboration. The 2004 ICG were notably nominiated for a Nobel Peace Prize. Ashley was then asked to submit her project to the Nobel Committee in Oslo, Norway.
After Chesterfield’s successful participation in the 2004 ICG, our city area earned its place as a participating city able to receive invitations to future Games. Thank you Ashley Simard for your pioneering spirit – paving the way for future Chesterfield student athletes to participate in the ICG.
